Dear Friends,

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported that this year’s flu-related hospitalizations rates are the highest they have been since the CDC started tracking in 2010. In Connecticut alone, there have been 52 flu-related deaths this season. Here are some special safety precautions you should keep in mind during flu season:It is not too late to get vaccinated! It is the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones against the flu. The CDC recommends everyone 6 months and older get the flu vaccine every year. To find a location closest to you to get vaccinated, the CDC recommends using their Vaccine Locator

  • Know the symptoms: fever, cough, sore throat, runny and congested nose, headaches, chills, and fatigue. Some people may experience vomiting and diarrhea. You can be infected with the flu and have respiratory symptoms without a fever. Even healthy people can get sick from the flu and spread it to others.
  • If you have symptoms of the flu, stay home at least 24 hours after your fever is gone. Limit your contact with people.
  • Wash your hands often, and clean and disinfect any surfaces or objects that may be contaminated by the flu virus.
  • In addition, it is always important to get adequate sleep, exercise regularly, eat a nutritious diet, and drink plenty of liquids to keep your immune system active. The CDC has more information and resources to help keep you healthy this flu season.
