We are pleased to announce that the Town of Beacon Falls Building Department is now accepting online appointment requests for building and mechanical inspections. To schedule an appointment, please use the Calendly appointment maker found at the link below.

Inspections are available Monday-Thursday between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. We ask that contractors be available for the entire appointment window.

Once the appointment request has been submitted, you will receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive an email, please check your spam folder.

Inspections

  • Footing and Wall Inspection: Prior to pouring any concrete. All forms and reinforcing steel must be in place prior to the inspection. Trenches must be safe, with ladder access.
  • Back-Fill Inspection: After the foundation is parged and waterproofed, footing drains must be installed. Note: Foundation walls must be sufficiently braced to prevent damage by the backfill process. Additional cure time, 3rd party concrete testing results, or special inspections may be required.
  • Sub-Slab Inspection: After insulation, reinforcing steel, vapor barrier, and any sub-slab trade work is installed, but before concrete is poured.
  • New Foundations: An A-2 Survey showing that the AS-BUILT location of the installed foundation complies with Town Zoning Regulations must be submitted prior to the start of framing.
  • Sheathing Inspection: After wind anchoring, membrane air barrier, Deck Ledger, Door and Window flashing, but before siding. Discuss phased work with the Building Official.
  • Roof Covering Inspection: After sheathing and Ice and Water Shield are installed, prior to roofing. Discuss phased work with the Building Official. Submit Roofing Shingle Manufacturer’s installation instructions for review. (Reference 100 MPH Wind Zone, Exposure B nailing requirements).
  • Rough-All-Trades: Prior to any insulation, after air sealing and fire caulking/air sealing of trade penetrations. All rough framing, electrical, low voltage, plumbing, heating, and air conditioning must be complete, stairs (temporary or permanent) must be installed, and the structure must be completely weather-tight. Note: The Building Department will not schedule this inspection unless all sub-contractor permits have been issued.
  • Air Barrier and Insulation: The Building Official may require this inspection to be done by a qualified 3rd party inspector at the applicant’s expense. Prior to installing drywall. Note: Jobsite must be broom clean, and insulation dust must settle at least 24 hours prior to inspection for safe air quality. Call for special instructions on spray foam or blown-in loose fill insulation depth gauges and installation process. (Note, if you are enrolled in an energy efficiency program that will be performing air leakage testing, such tests may be accepted as an alternative path to Energy Code compliance.)
  • Fenestration Inspection: After Doors and Windows are installed, flashed, and air sealed, but before trim, siding, and drywall is installed. Energy compliance stickers and labels must be visible on the glazing units. The manufacturer’s installation instructions must be available on-site for the inspector.
  • Duct Inspections: This is a required 3rd party test. Refer to the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code portion of the 2005 State Building Code, as amended, section 403.2.
  • Service Inspection: Electrical Service Inspection. Note: Plastic meter socket cover must be installed. Ground rods (plural) shall be visible or clearly marked. Trenches shall be inspected at the time of the service inspection. All other electrical trenches shall be inspected prior to backfilling. The electrician must be present for the Main Disconnect inspection.
  • Fireplace Inspections: Note: A Masonry Fireplace Permit is required.
    • Hearth inspection - reinforcing steel must be installed.
    • Throat inspection – at the installation of the first flue tile.
    • Manufactured fireplaces that burn other than solid fuel must be installed by a Licensed Gas, Heating, or Hearth Products Contractor, including the flue.
  • Gas Piping Inspection: All gas piping must be completely installed and properly fastened and supported, and nail protection plates must be installed. All required shut-off valves must be installed at each appliance location. A pressure test is required - the system shall be pressurized to a minimum of 15 PSI on a 30# gauge. A tag shall be displayed at the gauge with the time, date, and set pressure. Exterior tanks shall be inspected prior to backfill - cathodic protection shall be installed, and suitable backfill shall be stockpiled at the site.
  • Swimming Pool Note: A temporary enclosure must be erected and maintained until the permanent fence is installed.
    • Reinforcing steel and electrical bonding inspection.
    • Rough and plumbing and Electric prior to concealment
    • Final inspection (includes fencing and gate to code.)
  • Certificate of Occupancy: Final inspection prior to issuance of a Certificate of Use and Occupancy (required before actual occupancy.) Note: Make sure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are installed to code. The Zoning Department must issue a Zoning Certificate of Compliance (ZCC) before the CO can be released.
  • Other Inspections: Other inspections as the Building Official or job conditions/process may require.
