Town of Beacon Falls - Beacon Hose Company #1 awarded the Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) grant in the amount of $2,500 for the wildland pumps, suction hose and valve equipment!

The "Town of Beacon Falls - Beacon Hose Company #1" has requested $2,500 from VFA to fund 50% of the purchase of "wildland/brush" pumps, suction hoses, strainer valves and training. These items will complete BHC's rural water supply equipment inventory, building upon the 35 lengths of 100-foot forestry hose and 7 nozzles the Town/BHC was awarded last year under VFA.

Before last year, BHC never owned the lighter-weight forestry hose. While having the opportunity to utilize the VFA funded wildland hoses and nozzles on active brush fires and training over the past year, the BHC has realized a need for additional wildland equipment to be able to combat the excessive amount of sediment and debris contained in the ponds that BHC must draft from. Funding this project would make fighting grass/woods fires more efficient by filtering the pond water properly.

The professional wildland firefighter training will also be a first for the department. The training will be department-wide. BHC anticipates 20-30 members approximately will participate and will have a total of 20 hours of training.
