Board and Commission Information

Welcome!

The Town of Beacon Falls is always looking for volunteers with time and interest to serve on our many Boards and Commissions. Even if there is not currently an opening on a particular board, we would still like to hear about your interest in serving so we can contact you when there is an opening (e.g., a term expires, a resignation occurs, etc.).

Most Boards are appointed. Please see below for an overview of the appointment process, how to apply, and additional recommended steps to take if you're interested in being considered for an appointment with a particular board.

How Appointments Are Made:

The Board of Selectmen appoints all positions except for any elected roles.

 How to Apply:

The Office of the First Selectman oversees and coordinates the appointment process.

Please use the Board and Commission Interest Application Link to your left for more information on how to express interest.

All appointees must be registered voters in Beacon Falls. Please contact the Office of the Registrars of Voters to confirm that you are a registered voter in the Town of Beacon Falls.

What to Consider:

We always recommend that potential candidates attend a board meeting in which they are interested. All meetings are open to the public, and you can attend. See the Public Meetings Calendar for dates, times, and locations of meetings.

We also recommend that interested candidates read the recent minutes of the board or commission. This can give you a good idea of what that board's work typically entails.

Board chairs are also a great source of information. Feel free to introduce yourself to the chair - before (if appropriate) or after a meeting.

All board meetings are public, subject to the Freedom of Information Act, and conducted using Robert's Rules of Order. Please read Robert's Rules of Order for more information on meeting formatting. You can obtain a copy at our Library.

If you have any questions about the process, please contact the First Selectman's Office at (203) 729-4340 or LFennell@beaconfallsct.org.
